Transgrancanaria HG presents a new finish line in Parque Sur of Maspalomas and changes in its route

A new twist for Transgrancanaria. In order to improve the experience of participants, the race organisers continue to introduce changes that on this ocassion affect the route and the common finish line that will have the 3.500 runners who have booked their bib for this 20th anniversary.

In this ocassion, the main modification which have been setted out for the 2022 edition is the location change of the finish line. In a collaboration with the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Town Hall, the finish line of Transgrancanaria HG moves to Parque Sur of Maspalomas, a large, open, green and sport-oriented space that will allow a reception in style for the finishers of the five distances which end in the southern municipality.

With this modification, participants will not have to cross the last kilometres on the flat through the Maspalomas canal, they will go straight into the Parque Sur to receive their Transgrancanaria 2022 commemorative medal. In addition to sporting convenience, the aim is also to provide comfort in terms of services, as the finish line meal and cloakroom will be moved to the Parque Sur facilities, concentrating everything related to the end of the race at a single point.

“The San Bartolomé de Tirajana Town Council is once again committed to the Transgrancanaria, and this year, on the occasion of its 20th anniversary, we have decided to finish the event in the Parque Sur of Maspalomas, with the idea of turning it into a great festival of mountain races, with a series of activities in parallel that will help to make it more widely known. Without a doubt, this annual event has become one of the main sporting tourist attractions for our municipality”, said Samuel Henríquez Quintana, Sports Councillor of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Town Hall.

Moreover, if the health situation allows, Parque Sur of Maspalomas will host in this new finish line a recreational area, with live performances, DJs, children’s areas and stalls selling food and drink so that the public and participants can celebrate the achievement of their dream at the end of the race.

Change of route at the summit

On the other hand, tha organization of the race have also modified a part of the route on the summit area of the island: to reach the Roque Nublo platform. The natural emblem of the island will be now a waypoint for the runners of the most popular distance of the event. A change that will positively affect the spectacle of the race and will raise the level of the Maraton, the Classic and the Advanced.

New location of aid stations

As there is a longer stretch in the new sector, the organisers will set up a liquid refreshment point in the Roque Nublo car park where participants will be able to recharge their batteries after the new section of the race.

On the other hand, the fourth aid point of Classic modality will also have a new space: will be the Plaza de El Hornillo, in the municipality of Agaete. A more peaceful and safer place than Presa de Los Pérez.
